Details

A remix of this song called Death Goes to the Disco was included as a B-side on the Countdown single in 1991. This remix is much more well known than the original version, which remained unreleased until 2005, when it rather obscurely appeared on a CD that accompanied Sheffield journalist Martin Lilleker's book Beats Working For A Living. In 2012, it finally got a more official release as a bonus track on a reissue of the album Separations.

Two different mixes of this song have circulated among fans for some years (in addition to the Death Goes to the Disco remix). The version that has been officially released is labelled as 'mix 2'. This was regarded as the finished version by the band. The other one, 'mix 1', has not been released.

Lyrics

Tonight's the night
Open your door and I'll come inside
Don't be afraid, it will be alright
I will change your whole life tonight
And you're so beautiful
Too beautiful for this dead-end world
I'm taking you to a better place
Oh, far away from this stupid race

Oh, come with me forever
And ever, oh please
Come with me forever
No don't let me down
Oh, don't make me cry
Lie in my arms and be mine tonight
Do it!

Oh, now's the time
I'll climb the stairs and I'll make you mine
Don't try to hide there's nowhere to go
I want your body and I want your soul

Oh, come with me forever
And ever, oh please
Come with me forever
No don't let me down
Oh, don't make me cry
Lie in my arms and be mine tonight

And now see the sun
And how bright it shines
You can have it all
If you stay tonight
No don't walk away
No don't say goodbye
Lie in my arms and be mine tonight

Oh did I tell you
there was no need to be afraid?
Oh, you've got such a beautiful body
Oh, you'll make such a beautiful body

I stalk these yellow-lit cul-de-sacs at night
You'll hear my footstep on your bedroom stair
And I will take the first boy in every house in town
I'll take your sisters and I'll lay them down
I'll lay them down tonight, now!

I'll take your mother
And your father as he lies in bed at night
And your brother, who is busy wasting time
Yeah, I'll take them all now!

La la la
La la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la

Here we go now

And the sunlight on your window in the morning
And the wind that blows the blossom from the trees
And those girls who cross their legs
They'll all stop dead when I come into town!

Notes

Steven Havenhand states that Jarvis, rather than Russell, played the guitar part on this song due to Russell's inability to master it.
